SML is a global leader in the development of extrusion lines for the production of packaging films. With a view to the circular economy, plastic processing machines for the manufacturing of ultra-thin, resource-saving and recyclable mono-material films show great growth potential on the market. While conventional composite films, which consist of several materials, are hardly recyclable, the new mono-material composites can be re-processed easily.
At its Innovation Days 2024, SML presented a significant innovation towards a circular economy: On the latest generation of its cast film lines, SML manufactured a new type of mono-oriented MDO-PE film. The new film is just 15 microns thick and offers outstanding mechanical and optical properties.
This recent innovation is used in fully recyclable mono-material packaging such as stand-up pouches. Film converters and representatives of the packaging industry were able to see the quality and sustainability of these new packaging solutions for themselves on site.
